Get 2% cashback on everything and a free £10 with Zilch

zilch cashback appI’ve thought long and hard about writing about Zilch, for two reasons:

  1. It encourages BNPL (Buy now pay later) on anything from a £6 pizza to a £200 dress, and I don’t agree with BNPL.
  2. It has been abused for its referral system, which offers between £10 and £15 a referral, so every affiliate known to man has been spamming Facebook groups and Twitter for months, with no idea about what the site actually offers.

However, I’ve also been using it for a few months to get cashback on pretty much everything I buy online, and it does work, so here’s a quick rundown.

What is Zilch?

Zilch is a cashback and buy now pay later app and website that allows you to either split the cost of buying items (with a pre-determind credit limit) across 4 weeks.

Where can I use Zilch?

There are 2 parts to this – the recommended Zilch retailers (including eBay and Amazon, among many others) and what they call Zilch Anywhere, which allows you to get cashback on things you pay for in full on pretty much any site online.

How much cashback can I get?

Currently cashback on both options is 2%.

Can I get cashback if I split my payments?

Cashback is not available on split payment purchases.

How do I sign up?

You can sign up here – in order to use Zilch you will need to register a debit or credit card to be used for payments – I did this with no hassles and have been using Zilch for a few months with no issues.

How do I pay for purchases?

Zilch gives you a virtual Mastercard to use – this card is linked to your debit card and should be used to purchase from the sites you visit. I have my Zilch card registered with Amazon to make things easier for me.

Do I have to go via Zilch each time?

Yes, you need to log in to your Zilch account, choose ‘pay in full’ and enable your card for use on the site you are buying from.

At this point you can also enable your rewards balance to take money off your payment.

Can I withdraw cash from Zilch?

Unfortunately not – their cashback is in the form of points, which you can save up or spend as you earn to take money off your next purchase.

Do I get anything for signing up?

Each new signup gets a welcome bonus of £10 worth of Zilch points. I spent this on an Amazon giftcard, although recently some users have mentioned that they could not do this. You can, however use your £10 of points towards any purchase on any site of your choice using your Zilch card.

Is there a referral scheme?

There is – this ranges from between £10 and £15 per referral (once they have made a purchase using Zilch), and there are occasionally bonuses for referring a certain amount of subscribers.

Is it safe?

I have had no issues with it, my advice is to make doubly sure that you have:

  • chosen the pay in full cashback option
  • enabled your xilch card
  • pay with your zilch card details, NOT your debit card
  • enable the ‘discount your next purchase’ button if you have points in your account.

You can sign up for Zilch now and ask any questions on the Zilch thread in the Facebook group.
